Russian Language, History and Culture International Summer School
Studying Russian or other Slavic languages at university? Maybe your scientific interests are related to the culture and history of Russia — modern, of the Soviet period or of the times of the Russian Empire? The International Summer School «Russian Language, History and Culture» will allow you in two weeks to upgrade your knowledge and skills in Russian, expand and widen your knowledge about Russian culture and history in general and the culture of the Russian province.
Organization
The summer school is organized and supervised by the Perm branch of the National Research University «Higher School of Economics». Full teaching, administrative and academic support is provided by university professors and specialists.
If
- you are a student, a graduate student or a teacher at a foreign university or college, OR you a foreign enrollee or a foreign student at a russian university,
- you are 18-40 years old,
- you want to start learning Russian or are already studying it,
- you do not have restrictions for obtaining an entry visa to the Russian Federation (for countries with visa entry, visa support);
- you are ready to pay in full or in part (as we allow partial coverage of costs in the form of a scholarship) for your studies, as well as service fees, travel and other necessary fees and charges,
we invite you to visit Perm from 1st to 14th of July, 2019!
Program
The program of the school includes 72 hours of classes. Russian language classes will be organized in two tracks — for students with none and elementary level of language proficiency and for students who speak Russian to a certain extent. The program of the school includes lectures on Russian culture and history. Part of the classes will take place in the form of excursions to a theater, museums, art gallery, archive, etc. Two full day excursions are provided: to the open-air museum of Khokhlovka, where you can see unique examples of wooden architecture of the Russian north, and to the town of Kungur, an ancient merchant town on the once famous Great Tea Road.
Students with none and elementary level of the Russian language will be assisted by volunteers. Lectures on history and culture will be partially delivered in English, partially — with translation from Russian into English. The program provides that students, after receiving necessary theoretical knowledge, explanations of grammar, vocabulary, phonetics of the Russian language, can immediately apply them in conversational practice — during walking city tours, visiting cafes, shops, theaters, museums, etc. Completion of the school will be the preparation and presentation of an individual or group project.
Perm
The city of Perm can not be compared in touristic popularity with such areas as, for example, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan. However, lots of interesting, attractive things for someone who studies history and culture of Russia can be discovered in Perm. Cultural artifacts of capitals are replicated in catalogs and described on the Web. Perm gives a chance to touch a different cultural and historical layer — the life of the Russian province in its amazing diversity.
Modern Perm is a city with a million population, the capital of one of the subjects of the Russian Federation, a large industrial, educational, cultural center.
The history of Perm as a provincial city reflects all the milestones of the history of Russia.
The culture of Perm as a territory where people lived from ancient times appears before us through unique artifacts, in particular, through the phenomenon of the Permian animal style and wooden religious sculpture. All these things and much more you can see during your visit to our city.
